Mobility projects
Faster, more punctual and safer, thanks to modernisation
Safe and on time trains on the Belgian railway network: this is Infrabel's top priority. That's why we spend a lot on modernising the network. Just one example: we are renovating all signalling houses along our railways. This is not the end of the story however. Today and tomorrow’s mobility issues keep us on our toes. The result is a whole series of projects that put mobility and travellers’ comfort in the limelight:
- The high-speed network takes travellers from border to border fast;
- The RER project will ease the car traffic in the Brussels region;
- More trains on the North-South connection will make Brussels more accessible.
Railway network at full capacity
The importance of train traffic in the global transportation world is growing. Infrabel wants to use the railway network to its full potential. With more trains, better and smoother connections to other transport means. To achieve that, we are implementing a whole series of projects:
- Diabolo makes the airport in Zaventem more accessible by rail;
- Investments in the harbours of Antwerp and Zeebrugge encourage multi-modal use of rail and sea;
- Expansion projects in the harbours of Ostend, Liege, Athus and Brussels are creating space for further growth.
